About the PE Market Segments
There are five multidimensional segments - correlating to sales - where each segment displays certain operational and other traits. Three middle market segments are a key driving force behind the U.S. economy, making critical national and local economic contributions and providing what has proven to be the most sustainable source of jobs and sales.
SMALL: < $10M in Sales
Small companies are typically privately held, with a larger percentage $ than other segments being family-owned and operated.
MM SEGMENT 1: $10M - $50M in Sales
Middle Market businesses in this segment often operate more like small companies.They are typically privately held, with a larger percentage $ than other middle market segments being family-owned and operated.
MM SEGMENT 2: $50M - $100M in Sales
Well-established enterprises with consistent and mature business practices. They are more likely to be publicly listed than those companies in segment 1. They also have more mature business practices and invest in systems and business process development, training and education, and research and development.
MM SEGMENT 3: $100M - $1B in Sales
Beginning to resemble multinational companies, in particular regarding sales force capabilities, customer focus, easier access to capital, and a broader global footprint.
LARGE: > $1B in Sales
Large companies are multinational companies, in particular regarding sales force capabilities, customer focus, access to capital, and a broader global footprint.
